The Doberman Pinscher was created in Germany in the 1880s by Louis Dobermann, a tax collector who sought a loyal and intimidating personal protection dog, selectively blending breeds such as the Rottweiler, German Pinscher, and Black and Tan Terrier. It is an intelligent, alert, and fiercely loyal dog with a confident temperament that makes it both an excellent family protector and a highly trainable working partner. The breed was developed explicitly for personal protection, police and military work, and guarding, and it continues to serve in these roles globally today.
