The Dogo Argentino was developed in Argentina during the 1920s by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez, who crossed the now-extinct Fighting Dog of Cordoba with breeds such as the Great Dane, Boxer, and Spanish Mastiff to create a big-game hunter. It is a powerful, courageous, and loyal dog that is affectionate with its family while remaining a formidable guardian with strong protective instincts. The breed was created primarily to hunt puma and wild boar in the rugged Argentinian terrain, requiring endurance, strength, and teamwork among packs of dogs.
