The Parson Russell Terrier was developed in southern England in the 19th century by Reverend John Russell, who selectively bred working terriers in the Devonshire region. It is a bold, energetic, and highly intelligent breed known for its tenacious spirit, playful nature, and sometimes stubborn independence. This breed was developed specifically to bolt foxes from their underground dens during hunts, requiring a dog athletic enough to follow horses and fearless enough to work below ground.
