The Black Russian Terrier was developed in the Soviet Union during the late 1940s and 1950s at the Red Star Kennel, created by crossing numerous breeds including the Giant Schnauzer, Rottweiler, and Airedale Terrier. They are confident, calm, courageous, and deeply loyal dogs that are highly intelligent and form strong protective bonds with their families. They were purpose-bred by the Soviet military as a versatile working dog capable of guarding, patrolling, and performing police and military duties in harsh Russian climates.
