The Styrian Coarse-Haired Hound was developed in the Styria region of Austria in the late 19th century by breeder Karl Peintinger, who crossed an Istrian Coarse-Haired Hound with a Hanoverian Scenthound. This breed is tenacious, determined, and courageous, displaying a serious and focused temperament that makes it an intense working dog. It was specifically developed for hunting in the rough, mountainous terrain of the Austrian Alps, particularly for tracking wounded game such as wild boar.
