The Tornjak is an ancient livestock guardian breed originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, with written records of the breed dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries. They are calm, self-confident, and loyal dogs that are gentle with their families but courageous and assertive when protecting their charges. This breed was developed by Bosnian and Croatian shepherds to guard and protect sheep and other livestock from wolves, bears, and other predators in the mountainous terrain of the Balkans.
