The Schweizerischer Niederlaufhund is a small Swiss scent hound developed in Switzerland as a more compact version of the Schweizer Laufhund, bred selectively in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is alert, determined, and friendly, possessing the same passionate tracking instinct as its larger counterpart in a smaller frame. This breed was created to hunt game in dense terrain and regions where smaller hounds were more practical and effective.
