The Alaunt is an extinct breed of dog believed to have originated with the nomadic Alani tribes of Central Asia, who brought them westward into Europe during the early medieval period. Historical accounts describe them as powerful, fearless, and tenacious dogs capable of taking on large and dangerous prey without hesitation. This breed served as a war dog, big game hunter, and catch dog, and is widely believed to be an ancestor of many modern molosser and bulldog-type breeds.
