The Lapponian Herder, known in Finland as the Lapinporokoira, is a Finnish breed developed in Lapland by the indigenous Sámi people over many centuries in the harsh subarctic environment. They are hardworking, calm, and loyal dogs with strong herding instincts and the endurance to work in extreme cold weather conditions. Specifically bred to herd and manage reindeer across the vast arctic tundra, they are the primary working herding dog of Finland's Sámi reindeer herders.
