The Scottish Deerhound is a giant sighthound developed in the Scottish Highlands for hunting red deer, combining the speed and keen eyesight typical of coursing hounds with a notably gentle and dignified temperament. Known for its wiry, medium-length coat and moderate energy level, this breed is loyal and affectionate with its family while maintaining the independent nature characteristic of hunting dogs. The Scottish Deerhound is best recognized for its graceful athleticism, historical significance in Scottish hunting heritage, and its calm, good-natured disposition despite its considerable size and hunting prowess.
