The Spanish Mastiff, or Mastín Español, is an ancient breed from Spain with origins tracing back thousands of years, likely descending from large molosser-type dogs brought to the Iberian Peninsula. It is calm, self-assured, and deeply protective, possessing a natural guardian instinct combined with a gentle disposition toward its family. This breed was developed to protect livestock from wolves and other predators while accompanying great Merino sheep drives across the Spanish countryside.
