The Rottweiler is a robust German breed with ancient roots believed to descend from Roman drover dogs that accompanied legions through what is now southern Germany, with the town of Rottweil lending the breed its name. It is a confident, calm, and courageous dog known for its loyalty and deep affection for its family, combined with a natural instinct to protect. This breed was historically used to herd livestock and pull butchers' carts, later becoming valued as a police, military, and search-and-rescue dog.
