The New Guinea Singing Dog is an ancient, primitive canid native to the highlands of Papua New Guinea and is considered one of the rarest and most ancient dog populations in the world. It is an agile, curious, and highly independent animal with cat-like flexibility and a complex social nature. It was never selectively bred by humans in a traditional sense but survived as a free-living wild or semi-feral population in remote highland environments.
