The Segugio Italiano a Pelo Forte is one of Italy's most ancient breeds, descended from hounds depicted in Egyptian artifacts and later refined on the Italian peninsula during Roman times. It is an energetic, affectionate, and determined dog with great endurance and a melodious voice when on the hunt. This wire-coated variety was bred to track and chase hare and other game across diverse Italian terrain, working both solo and in packs.
