The Portuguese Pointer, known as the Perdigueiro Português, is one of Portugal's oldest native breeds, with documented history dating back to the 12th century in the Portuguese royal kennels. They are devoted, affectionate, and eager-to-please dogs that form very strong bonds with their handlers and are known for their calm and gentle disposition. This breed was developed as a versatile bird dog used primarily to locate and point upland game birds for hunters in Portugal.
