The Basset Bleu de Gascogne is an ancient French breed descending from the Grand Bleu de Gascogne, originating in the Gascony region of southwestern France with roots dating back to the Middle Ages. It is a sociable, tenacious, and vocal breed with a pleasant disposition, known for its distinctive mottled blue-and-black coat markings. This scenthound was bred to track hare and other small game at a slow, deliberate pace that hunters could follow on foot.
