The Wetterhoun, also known as the Dutch Spaniel, originated in the Friesland province of the Netherlands, with a history spanning at least 400 years. It is a tenacious, independent, and loyal breed that can be reserved with strangers but deeply devoted to its family. Originally developed to hunt otters and waterfowl in the marshy wetlands of the Netherlands, it also served as a guard dog on farms.
