The Shih Tzu originated in Tibet and was later refined in China, where it was treasured by Chinese royalty during the Ming and Qing dynasties. They are affectionate, outgoing, and charming dogs that form strong bonds with their families and generally get along well with other pets and strangers. Originally bred as a companion and lap dog for Chinese emperors, the Shih Tzu was developed purely for the purpose of providing warmth and companionship to nobility.
