The Tatra Shepherd Dog, also known as the Polski Owczarek Podhalanski, is an ancient breed from the Podhale region of the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland, with roots stretching back several centuries. It is a calm, courageous, and independent breed that is deeply loyal to its family and naturally protective, making it an imposing yet gentle guardian. The breed was developed by Polish highlanders to protect livestock, particularly sheep, from predators such as wolves and bears in the rugged mountain terrain.
