The Braque Français is an ancient French pointing breed descended from the old Spanish Pointer and considered one of the foundational ancestors of many modern pointing breeds, with origins in the Pyrenees and southern France dating back several centuries. They are gentle, docile, affectionate, and highly trainable dogs that are known for their cooperative temperament and strong desire to work closely with hunters. They were bred as versatile upland bird dogs used to point and retrieve a variety of game birds across the fields and mountains of southern France.
