One of the oldest and most massive dog breeds, the English Mastiff has roots in ancient Britain and was documented as early as the Roman invasion of England. They are gentle, calm, and deeply loyal, possessing a dignified and affectionate temperament that makes them excellent family companions despite their imposing size. Historically, English Mastiffs were used as war dogs, estate guardians, and for the baiting of large animals in blood sports.
