The Halden Hound originates from Norway, named after the town of Halden near the Swedish border, and was developed in the 19th century by crossing local Norwegian hounds with English and German hound breeds. It is an even-tempered, friendly, and energetic dog that is devoted to its family and gets along well with people, though it has a strong independent streak typical of scent hounds. This breed was developed primarily to hunt hare by scent, working alone rather than in packs across the rugged Scandinavian terrain.
