The Schapendoes, or Dutch Sheepdog, is a native herding breed from the Netherlands whose origins trace back centuries among Dutch farmers and shepherds, though the breed was nearly lost during World War II before being revived. They are lively, intelligent, and good-natured dogs with a cheerful disposition that makes them both capable working dogs and affectionate family companions. This breed was developed to herd flocks of sheep across the flat heathlands and farmlands of the Netherlands, relying on agility and stamina over long working days.
