The Dunker, also known as the Norwegian Hound, was developed in Norway in the early 19th century by Wilhelm Dunker, who crossed Russian Harlequin Hounds with reliable Norwegian scenthounds to create a capable hunting dog. It is a gentle, even-tempered, and dependable dog with a calm household manner and a focused, determined character in the field. The breed was developed primarily for hunting hare by scent across the rugged Norwegian landscape, prized for its methodical tracking ability and steady pace.
