The Australian Silky Terrier was developed in Australia during the late 19th and early 20th centuries through crosses between Australian Terriers and imported Yorkshire Terriers in Sydney and Victoria. They are spirited, alert, friendly, and quick-witted dogs with a big personality packed into a small frame. Originally bred as a small companion and domestic ratter, used to hunt and kill small rodents and snakes around Australian homesteads.
