The Bracco Italiano is one of the oldest European pointing breeds, originating in Italy as far back as the 4th or 5th century BC, with documented selective breeding by Italian noble families beginning in the Renaissance period. They are gentle, loyal, affectionate, and sociable dogs that are highly trainable and form deep bonds with their handlers while being excellent with families. They were developed as a versatile gun dog used for pointing and retrieving upland game birds across the varied terrain of the Italian countryside.
