The Hanover Hound, or Hannoverischer Schweißhund, is an ancient German breed descended from the heavy hunting dogs of the Middle Ages, developed and refined by royal huntsmen in the Kingdom of Hanover during the 19th century. It is a calm, serious, and deeply loyal dog that forms a strong bond with its handler, displaying reserved behavior with strangers and a deliberate, focused temperament. This breed was developed as a specialized blood-tracking dog used to follow the cold scent trails of wounded large game such as deer and wild boar.
