The American Foxhound is one of the oldest American dog breeds, developed in the United States during the 17th and 18th centuries by crossing English Foxhounds with French and Irish hounds. They are friendly, gentle, and sociable dogs known for their independent nature and strong prey drive. Bred specifically to hunt foxes over vast open terrain, they were developed to work in large packs with riders on horseback.
