The Rastreador Brasileiro, or Brazilian Tracker, is a scenthound breed developed in Brazil during the mid-20th century by Oswaldo Aranha Filho through crosses of various American and European hound breeds. It is an energetic, tenacious, and sociable dog known for its exceptional nose, endurance, and passionate drive while on a scent trail. The breed was specifically developed to track and hunt jaguar and other large game through the dense forests and varied terrain of Brazil, though it was declared extinct in the 1970s and later re-established through careful breeding efforts.
