The Billy is a French scenthound breed developed in the Poitou region of France during the 19th century by Gaston Hublot du Rivault, named after his ancestral estate. They are energetic, independent, and pack-oriented dogs that can be reserved with strangers but are loyal to their families. They were originally bred to hunt large game such as roe deer and wild boar in large packs across the French countryside.
