The Vikhan originates from the Chitral region of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan, where it has been bred for centuries by local tribes. It is known for being alert, loyal, and independent, with a strong protective instinct toward its family and flock. This breed was developed primarily as a livestock guardian and herding dog in the rugged mountainous terrain of the Hindu Kush.
