The Slovak Rough-Haired Pointer, known in its homeland as the Slovenský Hrubosrstý Stavač, was developed in Slovakia during the 20th century through crosses of Weimaraner, Cesky Fousek, and German Wirehaired Pointer to create a versatile gundog suited to Slovak terrain. They are loyal, intelligent, and eager-to-please dogs with a strong work ethic and an affectionate nature that makes them excellent companions for active hunters and families alike. Bred as an all-purpose hunting dog capable of pointing, tracking, and retrieving across varied terrain including forests, fields, and water, the breed excels in versatile hunting roles.
