The West Siberian Laika is one of the oldest Spitz-type breeds, originating from the vast taiga forests of western Siberia and the Ural Mountains in Russia, developed by indigenous Khanty and Mansi peoples. It is a bold, independent, and highly alert dog with strong hunting instincts and a loyal but sometimes stubborn nature toward its handler. This breed was developed as a versatile hunting dog capable of tracking and baying a wide variety of game including bear, elk, and small fur-bearing animals in harsh subarctic conditions.
