The Austrian Pinscher, or Österreichischer Pinscher, is an old farm dog breed from Austria that was selectively bred from various regional farm pinschers in the 19th century and formally recognized in the early 20th century. They are lively, playful, affectionate with family, and alert watchdogs that can be wary of strangers and strong-willed. Bred as an all-purpose farm dog in Austria used to guard property, hunt vermin, and herd livestock on rural homesteads.
