The German Longhaired Pointer, or Deutsch Langhaar, was developed in Germany during the 19th century from crosses of German bird dogs, spaniels, and setters, with the breed standard established in 1879. They are versatile, gentle, and highly trainable with a warm and sociable temperament that makes them excellent family dogs as well as skilled hunters. This breed was developed as a versatile all-around hunting dog capable of pointing, flushing, and retrieving game on land and from water.
