The Karelian Bear Dog originated in the Karelia region of Finland and Russia, with roots stretching back thousands of years among indigenous hunting peoples. It is an independent, tenacious, and fearless breed that forms a strong bond with its owner but can be aggressive toward other dogs. This breed was developed to hunt large, dangerous game including bears, moose, and wild boar, using its loud bark to hold prey at bay.
