The Chinese Crested Dog's precise origins are debated, but it is believed to have been developed in China from African hairless dogs, with records of hairless dogs in China dating back several centuries. It is a playful, affectionate, and alert breed that bonds closely with its family and tends to be sensitive to the moods of those around it. Historically, Chinese Crested Dogs were kept aboard Chinese trading ships to hunt vermin and were also used as warming companions for the sick.
