The Can de Chira is a rare and little-documented traditional herding breed from the Canary Islands of Spain, developed over centuries by local farmers and shepherds on the archipelago. It is believed to be an alert, hardy, and agile dog closely adapted to the volcanic and arid landscape of its native islands. The breed was used primarily for herding goats and other livestock across the rugged terrain of the Canary Islands.
