The Rajapalayam is an ancient sighthound breed originating from the town of Rajapalayam in the Tamil Nadu region of southern India, where it was prized by royalty and the Nayakar dynasty. It is a dignified, loyal, and somewhat aloof breed that bonds deeply with its owner but tends to be reserved or aggressive toward strangers and other animals. The breed was historically used to hunt wild boar and small game and also served as a fierce and loyal guard dog for royal households.
