The Sinhala Hound is an ancient primitive breed native to Sri Lanka, believed to be one of the oldest dog breeds in Asia with roots tracing back thousands of years to the island's earliest human inhabitants. They are alert, independent, and loyal dogs that tend to be reserved with strangers while forming devoted bonds with their families, retaining many of the survival instincts of their feral ancestors. Originally used for hunting small game and guarding villages in the tropical terrain of Sri Lanka, the Sinhala Hound is a natural and largely unmodified breed shaped by its environment rather than selective human breeding programs.
