The Grand Griffon Vendéen is an ancient rough-coated scent hound from the Vendée region of France, descended from the old white hounds of French royalty and further developed over many centuries. They are courageous, tenacious, and independent dogs with a cheerful disposition that can also be headstrong and willful. They were bred to hunt large game such as wolf and boar in packs, capable of working tirelessly through the dense, thorny scrubland of western France thanks to their hardy wire coat and robust constitution.
