The New Zealand Heading Dog, closely related to the Border Collie, was developed in New Zealand from imported British herding dogs to meet the demands of large-scale sheep farming in the country. It is an exceptionally intelligent, focused, and energetic breed that thrives when given a job and a strong working partnership with its handler. It was specifically developed to head off and gather sheep across the wide open hill and high-country stations of New Zealand.
