The Belgian Tervuren originates from the village of Tervuren in Belgium and was developed in the late 19th century, closely associated with breeder M. F. Corbeel who refined its elegant mahogany coat and working qualities. It is an intelligent, alert, and energetic breed with a strong herding instinct, great trainability, and a deep loyalty to its handler. This breed was developed primarily as a herding dog but has excelled in obedience, Schutzhund, search and rescue, and as a police dog.
