Originating in the vast regions of eastern Siberia, Russia, this ancient spitz-type breed was developed by indigenous peoples over many centuries in extreme northern conditions. They are bold, energetic, and independent with strong hunting instincts, though they can be affectionate and loyal with their families. The East Siberian Laika was bred to hunt large game including bear, elk, and wild boar in dense Siberian taiga.
