Bergamasco Shepherd

The Bergamasco Shepherd originates from the Italian Alps near Bergamo in northern Italy, where it has been used as a mountain herding dog for thousands of years with ancient roots possibly tracing to the Middle East. It is a patient, intelligent, and independent breed known for its unique felted, matted coat that forms naturally and provides protection against harsh alpine weather. This breed was developed to herd and guard flocks of sheep and goats in the high Alpine pastures with minimal human direction.
