The Blue Picardy Spaniel originated in the Picardy region of northern France in the early 20th century, developed by crossing the Picardy Spaniel with English Setters to produce a dog suited for marshy terrain. They are gentle, affectionate, calm, and eager-to-please dogs that are excellent with families and other animals. They were developed as a versatile gun dog used for hunting waterfowl and upland game in the wetlands and fields of northern France.
