Originating in England during the 19th century, the English Toy Terrier is a miniaturized descendant of the Manchester Terrier, refined through selective breeding for smaller size. They are alert, spirited, and affectionate with their families, combining typical terrier tenacity with a keen and lively personality suited to companion life. Originally bred for rat-killing competitions in pits and rabbit coursing, they were prized for their speed and vermin-hunting ability.
