Developed in Finland in the late 19th century by breeding various central European hounds, the Finnish Hound was standardized largely through the efforts of breeder Tammelin. They are calm, friendly, and never aggressive, displaying a balanced and pleasant temperament that makes them agreeable companions outside of hunting. The Finnish Hound was bred specifically for tracking and hunting hare and fox in the deep snows and demanding terrain of Scandinavia.
