One of the oldest livestock guardian breeds in existence, the Georgian Shepherd, also called the Caucasian Shepherd Dog, originated in the Caucasus mountains of Georgia and surrounding regions thousands of years ago. They are powerfully built, courageous, and fiercely protective, displaying deep loyalty to their family and livestock while remaining highly suspicious and assertive toward strangers and threats. Bred by Caucasian shepherds to independently guard flocks of sheep and cattle against wolves, bears, and human predators in rugged mountain terrain.
