The American Leopard Hound is one of the oldest tree dog breeds in the Americas, believed to have descended from dogs brought to the New World by Spanish conquistadors and later mixed with native Mexican dogs. They are energetic, loyal, and highly intelligent dogs with a strong instinct to track and tree game. Developed in the southeastern United States primarily to hunt large game such as bears, raccoons, and mountain lions by trailing and treeing them.
